The Challenge
South East Queensland is currently one of the fastest growing regions in Australia. This dramatic growth in population has placed considerable strain on the transport system.
The Queensland State Government responded with increased funding for transportation projects and created the South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan and Program 2006-2026 (SEQIPP). SEQIPP is a $66 billion blueprint for infrastructure investment over the next 20 years—see www.qr.com.au/seqip.
Systemwide was engaged by Queensland Transport to assess the future rail infrastructure requirements for the Brisbane metropolitan network to meet future increases in passenger and freight demand as part of SEQIPP.
Our Approach
Initially, Systemwide worked with Queensland Transport to define broad Service Plans that would meet passenger demand under several growth scenarios.
From these Service Plans, Systemwide developed Strategic Operating Plans that detailed the routing and timing of trains throughout the metropolitan network.
Systemwide then used these Strategic Operating Plans to determine the detailed infrastructure requirements, such as new or duplicated track, through to 2026 for each growth scenario.
