Systemwide's core services are:
Strategic rail operations advice
Systemwide provides strategic advice to leading rail organisations. We believe good strategic decisions involve an understanding of rail operations as the interface between project investment and customer experience. Using our knowledge in this area, combined with scientific analysis, we assist clients to reduce costs and enhance service quality today and in the future.
Network capacity assessment and planning
Systemwide specialises in assessing the capacity of complex rail networks. Sound, detailed understanding of the particular rail operation enables us to determine capacity, identify constraints and recommend investment strategies. Using state-of-the-art simulation tools and analysis methods, we are then able to quantify the benefits of different investment options.
On-time reliability forecasting and improvement
A reliable (punctual) rail operation is fundamental to a successful railway. Systemwide can predict the future reliability of networks by simulating their operation using sophisticated modelling techniques. The outcomes of our analysis assist railway operators to develop future infrastructure, operational and rolling stock strategies to ensure reliability is maintained. Systemwide’s preferred simulation suite is RailSys.
Service plan development and optimisation
Service plans (strategic timetables) underpin rail operations. Systemwide specialises in developing service plans that meet patronage demand, are operationally robust and minimise infrastructure and rolling stock needs. Our proprietary Train Load Predictor™ ensures a robust outcome by accurately predicting likely passenger behaviour to minimise under and over loading of trains.
Training programme for capacity planning and service plan/timetable development
Capacity planning for rail networks, particularly metropolitan networks with a mix of metro, regional and freight services, is complex. Planning and optimising these complicated systems requires individuals with specialist skills, industry experience and the capability to work with sophisticated software and modelling tools. Systemwide has a comprehensive modular training programme to teach staff to conduct state-of-the-art capacity planning and service plan design. For more information on our training programme, please click here.

Systemwide can advise rail organisations from the initial vision through to the first operating service. Our Railway Project Lifecycle shows an example of the value Systemwide can add to a project at each step.
Our advice is underpinned by rigorous analysis and the application of a variety of scientific tools and techniques.
